7 Day Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Adventure

Detailed itinerary:

7 Days Gorilla tour to Rwanda will take you to Volcanoes national park for gorilla trekking, Lake Kivu, chimpanzees tracking in Nyungwe, optional/additional Wildlife viewing in Akagera National park, Cultural tours in Kigali city to the genocide sites and the national museum.

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Meet our safari guide on arrival at Kigali International Airport then transfer to your to the home of mountain gorillas for dinner and overnight at Da Vinci Lodge, Villa Gorilla or Muhabura Hotel.

Day 2: The exciting mountain gorilla tracking experience 

Breakfast, get a briefing from the ranger guide – depending on the level of fitness, you may be allowed to choose the group of gorillas you wish to visit. The closest being about 2 hours or even a couple of minutes from the park boundary.  Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Tour Dian Fossey Tombs / Mt. Bisoke Hiking / Golden Monkeys / Musanze Caves

golden monkey tracking rwandaAfter early morning breakfast, hike to the Famous Dian Fossey Research center and Grave Yard, where the late Dr. Dian Fossey spent close to two decades habituating, studying and conserving the endangered Mountain Gorillas. Other optional activities for this day include hike to Bishoke / Vishoke Volcano, Golden Monkey tracking or Musanze caves exploration, all meals and overnight at your lodge on Day 2.

Day 4: Depart for Nyungwe Forest

Morning breakfast, then transfer to the Nyungwe Forest. This Forest contains a variety of habitats including montane forest, bamboo, grasslands, swamps, and bogs, and is very mountainous too. It provides some of the best Golden Monkey trekking experiences in East Africa, meals and Overnight at One & Only Nyungwe House, Peace Guest House or Gisakura Guest House.

Day 5: Chimpanzee tracking / Canopy walk / Nature walk / Colobus Monkey Tracking

Breakfast; have briefing about how to behave while with the chimpanzees. Thereafter, we start searching for the chimpanzees in their colonies. Also see the habituated Golden Monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, blue monkeys, Angolan colobus, L’hoest’s monkeys, and owl-faced monkeys. In the afternoon, you can choose to relax at your lodge, or take a forest walk to the water falls, canopy walk or colobus monkey tracking, dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 6: Murambi Genocide Site, Huye Museum, Nyanza palace tour

Breakfast followed by transfer to back to Kigali (5hrs drive), with en-route visit to Murambi genocide memorial site, Rwanda National Museums (Huye) and Nyanza palace. We shall have lunch at the Ibis Hotel in Butare, dinner, and overnight in the hotel of your choice in Kigali.

Day 7: Reserved for Departure

Relaxed morning at your hotel in Kigali, proceed for a city tour to Gisozi genocide museum, local art and craft shops, fruits market, etc. Depending on your scheduled departure flight, you will be transferred to Kigali Airport where the tour ends.

End of the Safari

Possible Extension
Add a day or 2 to Akagera National Park, famous for a variety of wild animals see along with the game safari through the park. Game safaris are conducted in a 4×4 safari vehicle with a pop-up roof for excellent game viewing and photographing. Among the animals, see include Elephants, Buffaloes, Masai Giraffes, Zebras, and many antelope species. Bird life is prolific especially on the boat ride on Lake Iheme. Accommodation is available at Akagera Game Lodge, Rhino Lodge, Magashi Camp, and Ruzizi Tented Lodge.
