Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge- Bwindi Forest in Uganda

Clouds-Mountain-Gorilla-LodgeThis is one of the luxury lodges in the Nkuringo Gorilla trail in Bwindi (Southern Bwindi Impenetrable Forest). From here you can visit four Gorilla Family Groups – the Nkuringo Gorilla Group, The Nshongi Gorilla Group, Mishaya Gorilla Group, and the Kahungye Gorilla Group. Clouds lodge is owned by the local village, so you can be sure that your stay contributes to the wellbeing of the surrounding Bakiga and Batwa communities, which you can visit on one of our fascinating cultural tours.

Clouds Mountain Lodge is comprised of the main building with a dining area, bar, lounge area with a fireplace to take off the chill at night.  The Lodge is made from local stone and the eight cottages look most welcoming.  Inside of your cottage you will be pleasantly surprised, not only is there a spacious bedroom with a bath, but there is a living room, not just a sitting room with a fireplace for your evening comfort and where you can go to sleep to a crackling fire.

Throughout Clouds Mountain Lodge you will find tasteful original African artwork, most of it on the walls including the cottages.  Artwork created by Ugandan Artists of high quality that will delight you as you view them.

Outside of each bedroom is a comfortable sitting area with comfortable and with an unobstructed view of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest below you, just sit there and take it all in. You are in the ancient Rainforest that survived the plate shift of the earth that created the volcanoes and the Western Rift Valley.

Not only are the cottages an enjoyable part of your stay at Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge but so is the exquisite food served to delight your plate with.  Delightful dishes are presented in unique ways with the freshest of fruit and vegetables and certainly no one complains.

In the evening you are most often entertained with traditional dancing by children from the Nkuringo Community trained by the Nkuringo Conservation and Development and Foundation.  You will be amazed by their talent and skills and will make your evening most special.

Delicious meals include hearty breakfasts to prepare you for a day in the forest, and the well-stocked bar has enormous armchairs, cosy fires, and free wifi so you can share your adventures with friends back home.

  • Gorilla trekking tour

The Mountain Gorillas are a top attraction in Africa and Gorilla tracking so it’s a unique experience. After a brisk walk face to face with these rare creatures, you forget everything around you. Experience the excitement, amazement having a close encounter with these gigantic rare creatures.
Until recently, it was always assumed that gorillas were terrifying monsters. Actually gorillas are shy, peaceful vegetarians.

  • Nature walks

For visitors who are on 2 or 3 days in Bwindi, the park has been fantastic walks. During all these routes, you have the opportunity to learn a lot about primates, many birds, butterflies, trees and other organisms that you will encounter during the walk. Munyage the river trail is an ideal short walk for visitors with limited time.

The popular waterfall trail is provided with an attractive feature of the forest. It has an abundance of tree ferns, epiphytic ferns, orchids and Bwindi’s colorful array of butterflies. This route leads to three beautiful crystal clear waterfalls typical of a tropical rainforest.

The Rushura route provides great views of the western valley. To the west, National Park the Virungas provide a spectacular backdrop of the Congo and on clear Days Lake Edward and the Rwenzori Mountains are visible.

The 5.2 km loop trail offers Muzabajiro breathtaking views over the Bwindi Forest, Western Rift Valley, and the Virungas. The way you will see hundreds of prehistoric tree ferns.
The River Ivi trail is the longest in the park one day and keeps you busy. It is recommended for bird lovers.

  • Guided community Walk

These guided village walk usually takes about three hours, is managed by the local community and received proceeds in the community invested so their welfare. During this walk, you will be introduced to some interesting places like atypical rural farmhouse, a visit to a local traditional pharmacy, a demonstration on a banana beer brewery and much more.

  • Cultural performances/ entertainment

In the evenings you can attend performances of fascinating traditional women’s group presentations. The proceeds will be invested in the welfare of families around the park.

  • Bird viewing safari

Bwindi is the refuge for bird lovers! It has approximately 346 species of birds and contains 90% of all Albertine rift endemics, difficult or impossible in other parts of East Africa to see. An experienced birdwatcher can spot 100 species of birds per day. Visit Ruhija and Buhoma for this dream to come true.
