Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Camp – 3 Day Uganda Gorilla Trekking Safari

nkuringo-gorilla-campThe Camp is strategically situated at 2161m above sea level on the Nteko ridge, overlooking a beautiful swath of the world-renowned home of mountain gorillas (Bwindi forest National Park). Nkuringo gorilla camp provides a clear view of conical peaks of the Virunga Volcanoes which is shared by Uganda, Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo.

Accommodation at Nkuringo Gorilla Camp
The camp consists of en-suite cottages, bandas, rooms, tents and a campsite for those who travel with their own tents. We also have a small restaurant serving locally sourced food, and self-catering facilities.
The camp was named after the Nkuringo group of gorillas and the camp is ideally located to see them close up. We also offer walking safaris through the forest to the village of Buhoma, and guests will enjoy birding as well as meeting our friendly Bakiga, Bafumbira and Batwa neighbors.

Facilities at the camp
The camp has a restaurant with wholesome freshly cooked meals with foodstuffs purchased locally in the nearby community trading centre.
Hot water is prepared for bathing. Rain water harvesting is conducted from the roofs of the cottages, Virunga terrace and dining shelter buildings.

Tourist Activities at Nkuringo Gorilla Camp
Visit Batwa pygmies, these are known as the keepers of the forest amazing is that , the Batwa exhibits unique characters in addition to Music, dance and drama.
Guided village walk, this is done by professional guides to sport birds.  Undertake a guided multi-day treks to/from Kisoro via Lake Mutanda Walk through Bwindi Forest to the park head quarters at Buhoma.

Gorilla tracking, this is the major activity in Bwindi impenetrable national Park which can be done while from the camp. Exciting  is that, only one hour is given while with the gorillas but still visitors leave the park sadly vowing to do a return in a near future.

Day 1: Kampala – Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
After morning breakfast, you will be picked by our driver/guide from your hotel and set off for the adventurous journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National park. You will have a stopover in Mbarara for lunch before continuing the journey via green hills, and flatlands and settle in Kabale which is also known as the “Switzerland of Africa”!  Later continue and have dinner and overnight at Nkuringo Gorilla Camp.

Day 2:  Gorilla Tracking Adventure
Early in the morning after breakfast, you will transfer to the headquarters for briefing from the Park rangers about the dos and don’ts while with the Gorillas, before embarking on the memorable activity of tracking the amazing apes. Tracking will take you through thick vegetation and the ease of finding the Gorillas will depend on the movement of the animals with in their natural environment. A maximum of one hour will be allowed with the Gorillas. Later descend to your Lodge. In the evening, if interested, you may go for cultural walk, where you will be entertained by the Batwa Community, and learn more about their Unique history. Dinner and overnight at your lodge on DAY 1.

Day 3: Transfer from Bwindi back to Entebbe via Kampala
After your breakfast, you will set off for your return journey. Stopover in Mbarara for an early lunch before continuing the journey to Kampala. Stop at the equator for photography and buy art craft on the way back. Via Kampala to Entebbe for your flight back home.

3 Day Uganda Gorilla safari from Kigali Rwanda
Note that this tour can start and end in Kigali to avoid long distance drive of 9hours from Kampala to Bwindi National park. It takes only 4hrs drive from Kigali (Rwanda Capital) to Nkuringo Gorilla Camp in Bwindi National Park in south western Uganda via Cyanika Boarder.
