- Volcanoes National park
Located in the north of the country that inhabits the last remaining population of the critically endangered mountain gorillas. Gorilla trekking tours are the main tour activity in this park. Gishwati Mukura National Park was gazetted in 2015 making it one of the newly established protected areas in Rwanda and East Africa at large. It is best described as a miracle conservation area in Rwanda and it is a home to variety of attractions like the red River hogs, southern 3 hyrax, blue monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, L’Hoests monkeys, golden monkeys, more than 130 bird species, chimpanzees and about 58 species of trees which range from hardwood to bamboo.
- Akagera National park
Lastly, Rwanda tours are based on wildlife viewing in Akagera National Park, found in the western part of the country, 3hrs drive from Kigali. A number of wild animal species found in this park such as buffaloes, Elephants, Giraffes, Zebras, oribs, etc, also bird species, hippos and crocodiles seen while on the boat ride along Lake Ihema in Akagera National Park.
