Marriott Hotels Rwanda to Open This Year

The chief executive of Marriott International Hotels and Resorts Arne Sorenson recently revealed that they expect to open their property in Kigali Rwanda before the end of 2014.

Marriott selected to mark its entry into the Rwandan hospitality market by adding hotel facility to the country’s growing hospitality industry to be operated under the company signature brand Marriott Hotels and Resorts.

Marriott Hotel Kigali is a 5 star hotel with about 254 rooms, located in the center of Kigali. In Rwanda, most of the decent hotels—accommodation rates range from $50 to $500 per night.

By adopting Akilah Women Institute Programmes, Marriott will train its stuff in Rwanda to enhance skills. Rwanda also hosted an estimate of 493,744 visitors in the first semester 2012 corresponding to an increase of 22% compared to 2011 in the same period and recorded a remarkable 16% increase in leisure travelers as well as an 8% increase in business visitors.

Apart from the current room capacity the government is encouraging more investment into the Hospitality industry of Rwanda in order to match the ever-increasing tourists in Rwanda.

In Kigali the capital city of Rwanda, several Global Hotel Chains are expected to open in the next few years, including Protea Hotel Group, Vision Hotel (4-star) with 157 rooms and the Sheraton Hotel. Currently, Rwanda has 370 registered hotels with a total of 6,700 rooms. This is a great opportunity for further growth of Rwanda’s tourism and hospitality industry.
